Solar Energy Explained

What Is Solar Power?

The amount of energy the sun sends towards our planet is 35,000 times more than what we currently produce and consume. Some of this energy is reflected back into space, but most of it is absorbed by the planet itself. That which reaches the earth can be captured and converted into electricity. That’s what solar power is… sunlight turned into electricity.

Solar Power Is Reliable

Because it comes from the sun, solar power is a “predictably intermittent” energy source. This means that although solar power is not available at all times, we can predict with a very good degree of accuracy when it will and will not be available. Hannah Solar’s technologies even store spare energy for periods that solar power is not available.

Not only is its availability predictable, so is its price. Once your solar system is in place, you pay nothing to harness the power you need. Compare this to the price fluctuations of other energy sources such as fossil fuels. Gasoline, oil, and natural gas prices can change almost overnight due to nothing more than the whims of the futures markets.

The Ecological Impact

The Earth has a finite amount of fossil-fuel resources and emerging countries are consuming more oil and electricity… adding to an already enormous carbon footprint. But solar power is a massive energy resource that we will never run out of… not for thousands and thousands of years. By investing in solar technology, you will directly reduce demand for carbon-based fuels and help eliminate our dependence on foreign oil.

In addition, your solar electric system uses no raw materials and is non-polluting. Unlike other energy sources, solar power reduces the amount of atmospheric pollutants that contribute to climate change, water and soil contamination, and resident health problems.

Benefits of Our Solar Technology

Because they are such attractive long-term investments, solar power solutions are rapidly gaining popularity. Last year, solar power supplied 0.02% of the world's total energy supply—and use has been doubling every two years or less. At this rate, solar power will become the world’s dominant energy source within a few short decades.

Advances in the industry have made solar electric systems affordable, effective, and more versatile… producing enough power to run almost any home, farm, plant, or business. As a Hannah Solar customer, your system will have no moving parts and will require very little maintenance. In addition, it will be backed by a 25-year manufacturer's warranty, and is expected to have a useful lifespan well in excess of 40 to 50 years. When looking into a solar energy system, consider that:

  • You may substantially reduce, or eliminate, the amount of electricity purchased from your utility provider.

  • You will be paid for the environmental contribution your solar electric system is making. Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs)—sometimes referred to as Green Tags—can be converted directly into cash for you.

  • Your utility company is required to give you credit (net metering) for any surplus electricity your system produces in excess of what you need.

  • Your solar investment is an effective hedge against future energy price increases.

  • At today's energy prices, your solar asset will return at least a 10% annual after-tax yield. All future energy price increases will steadily improve your rate of return.

  • Very generous Federal Tax Credits and government grants can substantially reduce what you pay to install your system, dramatically increasing your return on investment.
