Fountain Inc, SC (February 2019) – AVX Corporation recently partnered with Hannah Solar on 10 solar canopies for their global headquarters in Fountain Inn, SC. The 907 (kW) system is the largest solar canopy in the state of South Carolina and serves as on-site electrical generation for AVX as well as covered parking for their employees.
“For us, the decision to install a solar canopy in the employee parking lot of our corporate headquarters was both fiscally and environmentally beneficial,” says Michael Maich, senior project engineer at AVX. “This latest effort to help reduce our global environmental footprint was also an attractive alternative to installing traditional rooftop or ground-mounted solar panels since it both generates clean, sustainable energy, as well as provides an abundance of shaded parking spaces.”
The array was installed in conjunction with Duke Energy’s Solar Rebate Program in South Carolina. The solar energy produced by the system is equivalent to the energy needed for 108 homes in one year.
Hannah Solar was the design-build contractor and utilized the Quest Quadpod Double Cantilever canopy system from Quest Renewables. With limited space available, the Quest QuadPod canopy system paired with Trina glass on glass bifacial solar panels was the perfect solution for meeting both the electrical and architectural requirements of this project. According to Pete Marte, CEO of Hannah Solar, “This system is not only the largest system ever completed using the Quest Quadpod, it is one of Hannah Solar’s most beautiful carport projects to date.” With Trina glass-on-glass panels, clear backsheet, allowing light to shine through, Marte is extremely pleased with the look, feel and quality of the installation. “We couldn’t be happier with the product and we are really pleased to have been selected by AVX to design and build this stunning project.”
